10 Most Painful Places to Get Tattooed
When it comes to tattooing, no one person is the same as the other; everybody has preferences and some maniacs even enjoy the pain of getting tattooed! However, there are some main commonalities that determine how painful a tattoo will be in general.
The general rule of tattoo pain is made up of three factors:
- How thin or fat the skin area is
- How close to the bone it is
- How close to the nerve endings the area is
Overall, nerve endings seem to be closest to the areas that a more sensitive to touch, i.e. near joints, or even our private bits! (wouldn’t recommend getting a tattoo down there!) ;). So basically, the more nerves or proximity to the bone, the more pain you should feel. With this in mind, below is a list of the top ten places most likely to cause higher pain when being tattooed.
Top Ten Places:
Since there’s hardly any muscle tissue on your foot, the pain is augmented! The foot hits all three areas we previously mentioned; it has thin skin, close nerve endings as well as being close to the bone! Plus, the healing process can be a bastard due to the frequent movement in that area!
I don’t know if you have ever bit into your lip, but i can tell you, it’s frikkin painful! There’s no fatty tissue on your inner lip to cushion the pain, which also means nerve endings are relatively high here!
For a lot of people, your rib cage is one major place where you can see your bones, mostly when breathing in or laying down! Fat doesn’t tend to grow near your rib cage, which means the area is highly bone orientated and sensitive! This being said, getting the rib cage done is practically getting tattooed onto your bone. If you are lucky, you might get away with it being ticklish!
Whilst you can nip your elbow and it not hurt, getting tattooed is a completely different thing! For a start, the elbow is basically skin and bone with no muscle and fat in the area! As well as this, it tends to be a lot tougher skin to tattoo, meaning longer time is needed for the ink to penetrate the layers of skin.
Behind the ear
If you have ever been paintballing and being hit behind the ear on a cold day, you will know what pain is! The skin seems to be highly sensitive around this area, as well as being very thin, so as you can imagine, sticking a needle into it can hurt!
As i said previously, i wouldn’t recommend getting your bits done! There is a reason people enjoy sex, and that is because the genital area is highly sensitive! If you do happen to have a tattoo down there, i salute you!
The spine is another part of the body that hits all three pain areas; it has thin skin, close bones and a hell of a lot of nerves!
As you can imagine, the armpit is one place that is an absolute nuisance to tattoo, especially in the healing stage! If you are ticklish under the arm, there is a reason. There is a lot of nerve endings under the arm, so getting tattooed there can be pretty painful!
It goes without saying that the eyelid is going to be painful. It is one of the thinnest pieces of skin on your body! Plus, the fact it is constantly moving (blinking) can mean an absolute b*stard of a healing process!
Due to the fact that the skin is also very thin here, plus the nerve endings are high, the inner wrist can be extremely painful, especially if you are spending a long time on the tat!
